Fair question — you need to plan your day. The honest answer is "it depends on the service and the condition," but here are the real-world ranges we quote our own customers, and what makes a job run longer.
Typical Time Ranges
- Exterior detail: roughly 2–3 hours. Wash, iron and tar decontamination, clay treatment, and protection.
- Interior detail: roughly 2–4 hours. Deep vacuum, shampoo and extraction, panels, glass, touchpoints.
- Full detail (interior + exterior): plan on 4–6 hours for a average-condition vehicle.
- Paint correction: a Step 1 polish typically adds a half day; a Step 2 heavy correction can be a full day on its own.
- Ceramic coating: prep plus application usually means the car stays with us for a day; combined correction-and-coating packages often run into a second day.
- PPF and window tint: quoted per job at our North Haven studio — coverage decides it, and precision matters more than speed.
What Makes A Detail Take Longer
- Condition, above everything. A maintained car and a "haven't cleaned it since 2023" car are different jobs wearing the same name. Pet hair, embedded sand, and old spills add hours.
- Size. A three-row SUV has nearly double the carpet, glass, and panel area of a coupe.
- First visit vs. maintenance. The first deep clean is the long one. After that, maintenance details go much faster — especially on a ceramic-coated car, where washes take half the time.
- Weather, for mobile jobs. Heat, cold, and humidity all change dry times. A garage or shaded driveway helps.
Be suspicious of "full detail in 45 minutes." That is a gas-station wash with extra steps. Proper decontamination alone — iron remover, tar remover, clay — takes longer than that on most cars.
The Good News: You Don't Have To Wait Around
This is exactly why we run mobile service: we work in your driveway or office lot while you get on with your day. Book a workplace detail and the hours pass at your desk, not in a waiting room. For studio jobs at 150 Universal Drive, most clients drop off in the morning and pick up a finished car after work.
